Trying To Increase My Blogs Alexa Rank

I've recently noticed my blogs google page rank has gone completely and my Alexa rank is terrible, this morning I searched for ways to increase my Alexa Rank hoping my Google Page rank will get better too.

Until this morning I didn't even know what it really was but have found out "the Alexa Rank is a ranking system which bases its ranking schema on the level of traffic each website receives from the number of people who visit a website with the Alexa toolbar installed." And apparently the higher it is the more money a link from your blog is worth in advertising terms, so it would help me to get more sponsored posts and such. Lots of people complain it's not fair as only certain types of sites are likely to attract the toolbar users which puts the others at a disadvantage and I agree. Just because my readers may not have some toolbar installed doesn't mean they are less likely to click links.

This Blog Dosh Dosh has a lot of tips and links to other articles about improving your sites Alexa ranking which I found useful. It's not easy unless you write content that attracts a lot of webmasters apparently as they are more likely to have the toolbar installed. If anyone has any suggestions please comment with them, I've installed a widget on my blog and the firefox plug in that measures every page's rank. Now I just have to work out how I'm going attract alexa toolbar users...

More Seedlings Have Come Up

My seedlings are coming up in force now, nearly all my tomatoes are up it will soon be time to put them in their individual pots. The "Satan's Kiss Chilli's" are slower to come up only 2 so far but it does say they can take up to 10 days, I've also sewn some more chilli seeds I got free with Grow It magazine this month.
As you can see I'm using yoghurt pots and the old plastic trays meat comes in mainly at the moment. I've also found a slightly cut up and flattened out foil take away tray makes a brilliant reflector to stop the seedlings reaching towards the sun too much.

Save Our Sofas.

Save our sofas” is a site dedicated to lowering the number of Sofas rotting in landfill sites and on the streets and waste land by educating people on alternative methods of disposal. they give advice on ways to avoid buying a new but low quality sofa by Re-Furbishing an old one.
A great site to visit if you want to reduce your carbon footprint and were thinking of disposing of a sofa and getting a new one sometime soon. Even if your old sofa is beyond repair they can help you find a second hand one on eBay, many of them are probably better quality than more recently made ones. They are also running a competition you can Win Free Re-upholstery for your sofa if it is one of the ugliest submitted, just submit a picture to be in with a chance.

This is a sponsored post, I found as a member payperpost.

Today I found my first seedling had sprouted, it is a chilli plant of an Italian variety called "Satan's Kiss", which despite the name apparently produces chilli's that are only medium hot. I was relieved actually I was worried I had planted the seeds too deep and they were just rotting, but if this ones sprouted hopefully the others will follow over the next couple of days.

Today I also sowed some tomato seeds as we have some grow bags to fill, I've sown 2 varieties "Tumbling Tom" a dwarf variety you can grow in containers or hanging baskets or even indoors, and an outdoor one called "Gardeners Delight." hopefully they will start sprouting after about 7 days.

Challenge Barack Obama.

Amnesty International has started a campaign to challenge Barack Obama to do more for human rights in his first 100 days as president. Amnesty welcomes President Obama’s positive moves in his first days in office to: close Guantánamo; suspend trials by military commission; end the CIA’s secret detention programme and ban torture and other ill-treatment. But there is still much more to be done click the banner or the post title to find out what you can do to help. There is a petition to sign and numerous other actions you can take just visit the banner to see the whole site.

The Isle Of Wight Festival 2009

The Isle Of Wight festival looks good this year with an interesting line up, though saturday and sunday are still to be confirmed. It does say “The Prodigy" are playing as well as the “Basement Jaxx” “Pendulum” and “The Ting Tings” on the Friday which sounds like a great line up for the first night.

I of course love the Isle Of Wight festival as I live on the Island and don’t have to camp, it’s mad watching the final act perform then driving home and seeing it broadcast on TV about 50 minutes later, amazing how fast they can do these things now. The last time I went I saw “Amy Winehouse” and “The Rolling Stones” so it will be hard to top that year. I took the photo above myself, not bad considering I was in a huge crowd of people going "Wow look it's Mick Jagger and Amy Winehouse!" if I do say so myself. So anyway I’m eagerly waiting to see what other acts will be confirmed.

If you are travelling to the Island for the festival check out the Shanklin Accommodation there are some beautiful hotels and places.

The Snow on The IOW on Thursday

We hardly ever get snow on the Island and when it does snow it never settles it just melts, but last Thursday I managed to get this picture of some snow settled in the Garden. It's been worse all over the country roads and schools have been closed and it's been debated whether we cope really badly with Snow in the south Of England. Lot's of people complained all the schools shut as parents had to make child care arrangements.

Acobay

I’ve just found a new networking site called acobay which has a slightly new take on social networking, when you sign up you add all the products you use like the phone you use or the car you drive etc and you find new friends that way.
They even let you add your blog under the Anything section which I have done. You can also use the site to look at reviews of products before you buy them and the site gives you recommendations. It’s not just gadgets too you can add or browse books and movies and all sorts well worth a look if you’re interested in that sort of site.

Great Site For Halloween Costumes

I’m a great lover of Halloween and used to love dressing up when I was I kid, when I have a bigger place I’ll throw adult Halloween costume parties and will dress up again. There are so many costume options these days you are spoilt for choice.
I was searching the Internet for costume ideas as the witch costume every year is getting a little tired, and I came across the site Costume Cauldron while looking for a gypsy skirt . They have lots of excellent costumes, one of the creepiest has to be the "creepeez killer clown" I found in their “Serial Killer” section, anyone who’s ever seen or read Stephen Kings “It” or is generally spooked by Clowns Will understand why, it comes with highly detailed mask with a moveable jaw, finger extensions, and would scare the pants off me if someone jumped out from the dark wearing it.
And I also loved their “Fortune Teller” Costume, it not only looks lovely, it has a ruffled underskirt and petty coat is made from high quality materials and comes in a re-usable garment bag, what more could you ask for? And for the men there is a selection of ceaser Halloween costumes
I also found that look on the homepage halfway down on the right and click on the brown comma in the line that reads “Our Store now has over 10,000 masquerade items for you to choose from!” you find a secret haunted house that gives you a discount. It's never too early to get another new Halloween Costume, this year be prepared. :)

Recycling old plastic packaging for seed trays

I've ordered tons of vegetable seeds and now have to think about planting them all, compost went on sale in Somerfield's yesterday I got a bag for £1.29, but wasn't a sign of a seed tray insert anywhere, I went round a few other shops today and still no luck. So instead of buying seed tray inserts I've decided to collect up yoghurt posts and use them to grow the seeds, I'll punch holes in the bottom and place them in the plastic trays you get mushrooms in to keep them from falling over. Not only does it re-use plastic it saves money too. When I've got them all potted up and some shoots are starting to appear I'll post some pictures. To germinate the seeds I grew last year I just planted them and tied them up in a carrier bag to propagate them, I'm going to do the same this year so fingers crossed it will work again.
