Britblog needs more sign ups from British citizens and Ex-Patria

Most of my readers will know by now I am one of the editors for Britblog the directory of British Blogs. Mark started a competition to guess how many new sign ups we would get by the 31st of December 2005, the details are in the latest post on The Britblog Blog.

It seems the person who gave the lowest guess is going to win if we don't get more new signups (over a thousand!) . So If you are British citizen or Ex-British citizen who has not submitted thier Blog yet, now would be a great time for you to do it. Similarly if you know a British person who has a Blog and has not signed up yet please point them towards Britblog, me and the other editors are waiting eagerly to approve their Blogs.

Please remember we only approve sites by British citizens and ex-British citizens, you have to have made at least one post, the URL must be the URL to Blog not a site that links to a Blog or any other type of website, or an RSS feed.

We also only accept Blogs written in English or Welsh, and please try to select the right category for your Blog, as it is hard to change them later for the admin if you get the wrong one, though you can change it yourself.

BBC NEWS | Health | Worm eggs may tackle inflammation

This charming fellow may be the key to the best anti inflammatories we've ever known. Schistosome womds as they are called release a molecule which is good for easing severe inflammation.

More research is needed but they may also help to prevent allergies and other uncomfortable illnesss's.

This story reminds me of the use of maggots in treating leg ulcers, the maggots only eat dead tissue so they are very effective in easing the discomfort suffered by people afflicted with them. I will deffinately follow up on this article as more information comes to light.

BBC NEWS | Health | Dolphin therapy fights depression

Swimming with Dolphins really benefits people who suffer from depression a new study has found, but I can't see the NHS adopting that one too quickly. I'm not even sure if you can swim with Dolphins in this country, though I have just found a great link to the Whale And Dolphin Conservation Society that gives a lot of information about dolphins. There's even an article about dolphin petting pools being harmful to dolphins in The US called "Biting the hand that feeds it the case against Dolphin petting pools".

So in conclusion maybe it isn't a good idea to let depressed people swim around with Dolphins after all, as they are such highly intelligent and sensitive animals.

BritBlog Shop : CafePress.com

Firstly Happy Thanks Giving to any American readers passing through, watch those Turkeys aren't planning revenge...

The Britblog shop has now been updated, there's a whole range of clothing and other accessories, I have my eye on mouse mat and a mug, and of course a T-shirt. Will order them before Christmas if funds permit.

I have also Joined the Panel at "Discuss It", I am the first woman and British person I think, so this will be groundbreaking.

I've also started playing a Role Playing Game called "Epoch Of Shadows" where I seem to be the only woman playing most of the time ( I only saw one). So if anyone is interested in joining a female team on a Role Playing Game, check out the link above, download the game if you like the sound of it, and contact me in a comment.

BBC NEWS | Europe | Baby milk scare widens in Europe

The baby milk scare has widened to other parts of Europe, click the title to read the full story, even the BBC are talking about the third world baby milk scandal now on thier website. I'm not sure if they have discussed it before I don't have time to check, but it's a step forward they are talking about it now.

There's a link in the post below explaining the scale of the problem, and a gazoo for people on Blogazoo.

Blogazoo by the way is a blog traffic exchange that needs new members, so if you haven't joined yet click the hyperlink above and sign up.

BBC NEWS | Europe | Italy gripped by baby milk scare

Nestle baby milk products are in the news again this morning, it seems a batch in Italy may have been contaminated with something used in the label making process, click the title of this post for the full story.

For a long time they have been selling baby milk under false pretences in other countries. This site encourages a boycott of thier products until they stop and contains information on the subject.

I heard about it years ago on a stand at a festival and have tried to boycott Nestle ever since, but it's harder than you would think, they dominate the food market and make money from all kinds of products, many of them aimed at children. They even sell cat and dog food and other dried goods including pasta.

And here's a new Gazoo

Butterfly wings work like LEDs, what else have they been hiding from us?

I liked this story, it seems butterflies wings have been illuminated in a similar way to the way LED's work for millions of years, and we've only just noticed. I wonder if the butterflies are going to get compensation? Who is thier lawyer anyway? And have they been held accountable for the butterfly effect yet?

Them butterflies have got a lot to answer for I tells ya, they look pretty and have a short life span, but they are trying to take over the world I'm sure of it! They are everywhere in the summer flying about, sitting on flowers drinking the sweet nectar, for what? They don't even make honey! I shall expand on this theory as I find more evidence...

BBC NEWS | Health | 'Tourists' harming India's health

I've just read this worrying article on the BBC news site, It seems that tourism isn't helping India it's making things worse. Rich people are being encouraged to fly out there to have cheap operations but the healthcare for the poor is not getting better. You would think the point of attracting rich people to pay for operations would be to improve the quality of care for the poor, but apparently not.

I read another story on someone elses blog (sorry don't have a link) about a womans eye being eaten by an ant in a hospital in India. Her screams were ignored as the nurses thought the pain was a result of the infection she was recovering from, if that's not negligence I don't know what is.

Here's a picture of my guitar I just took, I'm learning to play "Sweet Rosemary" by Sandy Denny. The guitar has been in my family for years and has had at least 3 people learn to play on it.

Always Crashing » Blog Archive » Insomnia Entry

My friend over at Always Crashing is also suffering with his insomnia at the moment I see My Myspace Group Insomniacs anonymous is proving popular now too, seems there are many of us suffering out there. I don't want to take sleeping pills, but what the hell other alternative is there? Lie awake until I hallucinate from sleep deprivation? I mean I know that's fun sometimes but come on!

My sleeping pattern is sorting itself out I'm awake early this morning, but I didn't get to sleep till the early hours so would rather have got a few hours more sleep this morning, so I can't win. I need to go to a sleep clinic to get more advice on ways to improve my sleep pattern, if anyone has any tips please post them in the answers (my word for comments) or if you are my space join my group.

BBC - Comedy Blog - Speaking Frankly

BBC - Comedy Blog - Speaking Frankly

This is a good one, a chat show host publicly admits that hosting a chat show is easy namely Frank Skinner. He also says Comedy is hard which is true, it's harder than tragedy to write that's for sure. If you are interested in comedy the BBC Comedy Blog is worth bookmarking, it contains info about loads of British Comedy acts and is updated regularly.

I notice they are not added to the Britblog directory yet either I'll have to tell them about it, we need more blogs for the Humor section. All sections are growing steadily now which is great keep them coming, just remember to submit your blog URL not the RSS feed. Also make sure the URL is correct, and remember we only add British people or ex pats, there are loads of sites where everyone can be added, Britblog is just for British Blogs. If you are an ex patriot of Britain and you submit your Blog please say that somewhere in your Blog description so the editor can tell, as if it's not clear we will probably reject your Blog. There is even the html for an ex-pat button you can use on the site if you wish. Typing 2

Finally saw psychiatrist!

He says I need a personality test so now have to pursue getting one of those as they will try and say I don't need one repeatedly, at least something is finally being done. I can't move on in my life until I have recieved the correct treatment for my problem they know that, and can't deny me the treatment I need any longer.

This has been cheering for me as they are finally listening to me and things are starting to happen, I am planning to start a home business selling the patchwork things I make just need to go and talk to the guy at the job centre. Once I am making some money I can pay for my own psychiatric treatment and won't need to rely on the NHS anymore.

Feeling Better Now

Am getting back into the swing of things again now not feeling so depressed, I split up from my old partner and he had some trouble letting go, that's been the root of my problems.
He has finally got the message now and is leaving me alone, so things are getting back to normal for me, will be writing more again soon just finding the time to do it now. I've been very busy running round the town trying to stay away from my old partner, but he has been following me.

You wouldn't believe the week I've had.

I'm not moving to my cottage anymore to my great disapointment, I will now have to find somewhere else to move to. Nothing ever comes easily to me I should have known it wouldn't work out. At least I still have my council flat (just) am too depressed to write much more for now, just wanted to let everyone know I am still here.
