Donovan Universal Soldier

It may sound cheesey but I heard the protest song "Universal Soldier" By Donovan again today and in this current time of war was moved by how timeless it's message is.

So I'd like to share the lyrics with you here today, for those of you who may have forgotten it, or have never heard it.

Universal Soldier Lyrics
by Donovan

He's five foot-two, and he's six feet-four,
He fights with missiles and with spears.
He's all of thirty-one, and he's only seventeen,
Been a soldier for a thousand years.

He's a Catholic, a Hindu, an Atheist, a Jain,
A Buddhist and a Baptist and a Jew.
And he knows he shouldn't kill,
And he knows he always will,
Kill you for me my friend and me for you.

And he's fighting for Canada,
He's fighting for France,
He's fighting for the USA,
And he's fighting for the Russians,
And he's fighting for Japan,
And he thinks we'll put an end to war this way.

And he's fighting for Democracy,
He's fighting for the Reds,
He says it's for the peace of all.
He's the one who must decide,
Who's to live and who's to die,
And he never sees the writing on the wall.

But without him,
How would Hitler have condemned him at Dachau?
Without him Caesar would have stood alone,
He's the one who gives his body
As a weapon of the war,
And without him all this killing can't go on.

He's the Universal Soldier and he really is to blame,
His orders come from far away no more,
They come from here and there and you and me,
And brothers can't you see,
This is not the way we put the end to war.

If you've never heard it go and find it, it won't be hard to find it's a classic song.

Blogs vie with news for eyeballs

The BBC are reporting that bloggers ARE reliable news sources, and the news sites are going to incorperate blogs into their sites, and Yahoo is including them on their searches. Lets just hope they aren't going to expect us to do their reporting for them for free.

It says in this article they used photo's on their site taken by members of the public, it doesn't say whether they paid them.

But this is definately the first step forward, soon the organised media will be a thing of the past, and Bloggers will rule the world!

Ha Ha Ha

Couldn't find a smiley that showed manical laughter, sorry.

'Whole generation' lost in quake, and where is all the outside Aid?

BBC NEWS | South Asia | 'Whole generation' lost in quake

The BBC news is reporting that children have been the biggest casualties, they were killed when their schools collapsed. I'm watching this story on the television it's been 2 days and they are not getting enough outside Aid.

There are people still under the rubble and not enough rescuers to get them all out. Oxfam are only just sending relief, why has it taken so long? How many earthquakes have we had to learn from? The Aid should be getting there quicker than this.

Regarding My Post On President Bush

United States House of Representatives - Amendments to the Constitution

I made a post earlier about old G.W talking too much about Christianity when dealing with politics, indeed saying he invaded Iraq because God told him to.

Some people seem to think I was knocking Christianity, I wasn't we live in free society Bush can be whatever religion he wants.

If you don't understand what I was trying to say in my first post, read the first amendment to your constitution, (link at top of post) then hopefully you will get what I mean.

If he made a law because God told him to (the UN had to change a law to make this war legal, there is much debate about whether it is legal, and whether we started the war based on a lie). If he's doing it just because the people Islamic, or just for their oil, then I find it terrifying he is currently still the most powerful man in the world, as he should have impeached long ago.

My Flat Has Grown Filthy

All my recent blogging activity has meant the cleaning in my flat has been forgotten about, my Kitchen floor is appalling.

I'm moving In a couple of weeks too so it's important I get the place sorted out so I can pack, I also have to finish my story for the Blog Advance forum which I have started, She's given us an extra day to finish them, so I have no excuse. Pagan Books - "Book Of spells" Review

I recently bought this book and was impressed with it as many pagan books about Wicca are mainly irrelevant, but this tells you everything you need to know if you have an interest in wicca and paganism.

The author is a white witch is well known in Scotland as a Psychic and numerologist, and is resident astrologer for the "Sunday Post".

It is a wisely written witches spell book and everything is thoughtfully well laid out, making the book very easy to use. It is good for anyone looking for information on how to become a witch.

She gives the subject a new and modern edge without losing the tradition and doesn't try to impose her own idea's about how to worship on you, as Wicca is not an organised religion, and as witches and pagans will know, you worship how you or your coven chooses. She makes a point of saying this, as some authors of books about Wicca don't, I liked this and would recommend this book to anyone looking to start out as a practicing Wiccan, or anyone interested in learning more about pagan faiths and practices.

White House Denies Bush God Claim

I found a story on The BBC news site about a show they are producing where someone claims George Bush said he invaded Iraq because God told him to.

The White House have denied that Bush said this but if it is true I would not be surprised, there is a complete transcript of the statements he has supposed to have made and when and where on the BBC news site, the post title is a link.

It's very believable he did say the things they say he said and I think it's ludicrous they are denying it, he spouts Christian rubbish all the time in speech's. I think this is a very stupid thing for the American President to do, as it alienates immediately anyone listening who is not a Christian.

Teasire

I just found a lovely new blog called Teasire It's a blog about tea, and I can't believe a British person didn't do it first!I Don't Get It

The Author posts about a company that is actually producing tea in Britain, which as he points out is a first, as our climate is so cold and hostile. They must be using Green Houses or it wouldn't work, I must try this tea to see how good it is, the company is called Tregothnan Tea.

The implications for fair trade are good if we can produce tea here, pressure can be put on tea companies to produce their own tea here instead of sourcing it from abroad and paying unfair prices to the growers for it.

I Have Cured The Sidebar.

The problem seems to be since I set my blog to only display 5 posts my sidebar just isn't long enough for everything I had in it. Sad

I'm Gradually adding all the things that were in it back, but I'm going to have to get rid of some of the links, I'll only be adding ones that are required. There's still room for my blogroll fortunately, and the weather Pixie and my favourite blinkys aren't going. I've already deleted the shout out box and Random Surrealism Generator, I want to keep some of my pretty precious things.

I have a stat counter at the bottom of my Blog and it gives me some quite detailed stats on my visitors including Key words people use to find the place. For ages I was getting no visitors from search engines, but I have diligently gone round registering with them and am finally getting people finding my blog and visiting.

Though the Keywords they used are weird, for a couple days a person in Washington has been typing the word "array" into technorati blog search engine and coming to my blog where it's in a post I made earlier about BritBlog. They've been staying for almost an hour every time, it's really doing my head in, what can possibly be the purpose of that? If you are here and reading this please tell me in a comment.

Comedy legend Ronnie Barker dies!

I have always been a great fan of Ronnie Barker and Ronnie Corbett, and though most of their comedy was light hearted compared to what I'm into now days, it saddened me to read of Ronnie Barkers death at the age of 76.

Many people have spoken of how great he was already, including Michael Parkinson, the thread title is a link to the BBC article, with links to his obituary and other tributes.

I hope this means they will show "The Two Ronnies" again, they are always showing "porridge" anyway.

I thought this picture of him with Richard Beckinsale would be fitting, as he tragically died very young didn't he, I wonder if they are together on a set of a prison cell in heaven?

Writersroom

I've just been over at the BBC's site reading their writing resource pages and wanted to recommend them to others, the post title is a link to tips on writing narrative comedy.

I've said in my about me section I wanted to be a writer and little else on the matter since, I have actually been trying to come up with an idea for a sit com for British television, and I found their pages very helpful. There's definitely a demand for new writers in the TV industry, and I had an idea for a screenplay a few years ago I may try and adapt for television, or even just take some of the characters from.

I found it eerily accurate so thought I'd post it.

Bronchitis

Ill

I'm ill today I seem to have bronchitis I get it every year it's how I know Winter has begun, and every time I try to give up smoking. I've had two single skin joints today so far and that's it, it's easy not to smoke when it hurts your chest to do so, but I always start again as soon as I'm better. This time I want to do it properly and not start again so I'm cutting down first since I smoke a ridiculous amount. I'm also moving soon so I can aim to not be smoking by the time I get to my new house.

Coffin And Smoking

I've also put all the blogs on my blogroll that had RSS feeds on my RSS reader so I could shorten the list in my sidebar a bit. Not that many seem to have them unfotunatly so I still have a long list, I am still reading them all so don't panic if your blog is gone you're not losing readers.

BBC NEWS | Asia-Pacific | Bali bombs 'were suicide attacks'

It seems the bombers walked into the restaurants wearing explosive vests that they detonated, and all that is left of them now are their heads and feet. The bombs were also packed with ball bearings to maximize the damge and injury caused, they think it was Jemaah Islamiah a regional militant group also blamed for the last Bali bombing.

I will never understand why any organisation thinks terrorism is a good way to get your group noticed or your voice heard, since as soon as you've done anything as evil as this no one will listen to you.

Chocolate Crisis!

According to JaneyZee's Save the Chocolate page the tropical Cacoa tree's that make Cocoa beans are becoming extinct. Fainting Girl

Check out her site to find out what you can do about it, I'll have another chocolate review soon too.

Malawi hunger crisis 'worsening'

BBC NEWS | Africa | Malawi hunger crisis 'worsening'

There's about to be another wave of starvation in Malawi, their Maize Harvest has failed because of lack of seed and fertiliser. So don't forget about those people when your donating all your money to the Hurricane Katrina charities, the American government should pay for that anyway.

US launches assault in west Iraq

BBC NEWS | Middle East | US launches assault in west Iraq

So we're still in Iraq, it says in the above article 10 civilians have been killed in this new operation already. How long are we going to stay there and keep tormenting the already traumatized Iraqi citizens and sentencing our soldiers to die at the hands of angry mobs? I bet if we left Iraq tomorrow the amount of insurgent activity would decrease within days, we are the ones causing the problem now! When are our governments going to see that?

We should never have started this war in the first place, now we are starting a civil war, for shame.

New Template.

I decided to change my template as the "blacker than the darkest depths of Hell" template was getting a bit much. I will sort out whatever is making the side bar go funny as soon as I can work out where the problem is in the html, it happened to my old template.

It's been a peaceful night, I'm having a drink and watching the telly and have been surfing on "Surf For The Earth" for the first time in ages. So my blog will be getting visitors from there from now on since I've added it, I also added my Blogazoo referral page so I'll hopefully get a few more downline members over there.

If you use click exchanges to get traffic to your blog I recommend "Surf For The Earth", it's not blog specific so you can advertise your referral pages too, you can choose what type of blogs you view so if you don't want to surf the business blogs you don't have too. There's also a fun feature while you surf "Ranger Bobs Word Safari" where you solve a word puzzle and win credits and focus points. You can donate your credits to a number of charities, and there are also contests quite regularly, It would be nice to have more blogs over there. The site design is really cute, the mascot "Ranger Bob" is a little Bobcat, and you can earn focus points for buying the merchandising.

If you do sign up, when you log in read the paragraph of text at the top of the page, and click the relavant link to choose what sites you browse, and make sure you put your blog in the relavant category when you add it, I'll see you there!
